belated celebration of the dia de la muerta

just wanted to show you one of my favorite souvenirs i brought back from my trip to a lil’ town called patzcuaro(mexico) earlier this year. i had a hard time picking just one skeletal doll to take home. in the end i chose this one because of the bird & the pears on her dress.

in other news: easy peasy apple tart. its my way of using up a bag of apples a little faster than its life span.

ingredients: apples, readymade pie crust, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar (i use agave syrup), raisins (optional).

  • peel & core apple to slices. over medium heat melt butter. mix in cinnamon, nutmeg & sugar. toss in apples & raisins. mix well. turn off & let cool.
  • roll out round pie crust. arrange apple filling in the center. reserve the butter. fold crust inward. use leftover butter & brush it all over the top of the crust.
  • bake at 350 degrees for about 20 mins or until golden.

let cool before serving. add a dollop of heavy cream or ice cream for extra tastiness.
